Paragraph assignment 3

This assignment has two primary purposes: 1) further practice in the prewriting techniques and principles of paragraph development and revision covered in Discovery's first four chapters, and 2) working on repetition of key words from the topic sentence in every supporting sentence to foster paragraph unity (see Writing Tip #3).

This final draft of the paragraph must be typed: follow all guidelines for formatting typed work as explained on my Simple Stuff page.

In addition to the final product, turn in the prewriting materials and all drafts (handwritten and/or typed) you created before arriving at the final draft.

Your task:  Develop a carefully unified, coherent, and well-developed paragraph of at least 150 words (300 word maximum) elaborating any of the reasons for people committing adultery listed below. (If you prefer a different explanation for why people commit adultery from our discussion in class, you may use one of those ideas instead). Address only one of the points given in the different topic sentences below, and avoid combining different points in the same paragraph. Note that you may begin your paragraph by copying the topic sentence you choose word for word without fear of plagiarism.

Topic sentence 1:
One theory on why so many people commit adultery holds that human beings are not by nature monogamous, that lifelong fidelity to a single sexual partner is unnatural.

Topic sentence 2:
Another theory would have us believe that the so-called "mid-life crisis" is the reason so many people commit adultery. . . .

Topic sentence 3:
It may be that many people engage in adultery from simple boredom—it is a sad but true fact that in many marriages sex becomes "old" within months of the honeymoon.

Topic sentence 4:
People commit adultery, too, because some see cheating as method of escape or relief from other, deeper problems in their marriages.
