English 1101 in-class essayIn a well-structured essay of at least four paragraphs, address one of these three topics:
Analyze different advantages of polygamy for the modern career woman.
Explore different reasons some people are such passionate sports fans.
Not fine print! Read carefully before starting the essay:
Write in ink, not pencil; double space the essay throughout; and write only on one side of each piece of paper.
Raise a question in the introduction and answer it in topic sentences for each of the essay's body paragraphs, presenting a thesis in the conclusion. Make each body paragraph's topic sentence answer the central question directly (as in Writing Exercise 3).
On a separate piece of paper, before you start writing the introduction (or the actual essay), compose a topic sentence outline in this pattern:
- Central question addressing prompt
- Topic sentence 1 answering the question directly
- Topic sentence 2 answering the question directly
- (Optional topic sentence 3 answering the question directly)
- Thesis statement answering the question directly and joining together the main points from topic sentences 1 and 2 (and 3, if applicable).
Then incorporate these sentences--the question, topic sentences, and thesis, in separate paragraphs of their own in the essay itself.
Turn in this topic sentence outline on a separate page along with the full essay.
